Job Spec: Our client is a breakaway business and insight consultancy. A success story started by a group of talented directors with high standards and a passion for what they do.
They continue to be on the up and up and have joined forces with a US business to ensure their firm can continue to grow into a global offer. The London office is buzzing with intent and full of bright sparks designing and executing best in class mixed method studies for clients across a range of sectors including IT/tech/telecoms, media, finance, leisure, alcohol & services.
They have steadily managed to increase headcount and are very good at attracting the best talent. They have fab client recognition and are well respected and rated in the industry, this is the most progressive business to be joining right now while much of the industry pause for thought.
Built by plain speaking bright people with a perennial reputation for delivering best in class consultancy based on rigorous evidence-based insight, they have tons of experience across a wide range of topics, audiences and sectors. They still have that wanderlust for the prospect of attacking knotty strategy or marketing questions and breaking them down by finding the insights wherever they can for their clients. These insights could be within the knowledge base clients already have but are not utilising, they could be in their instinctive distillation of what is going on in the category or could be discovered or confirmed with some precise ad hoc studies designed to complete the picture.
The key idea behind the business success is to work with clients to get the most from their research spend to ensure that any new work genuinely delivers something new and gives tangible and commercial opportunities to that business.
They create insight from anywhere and pride themselves on being methodologically agnostic and utilising both existing data and primary research to build on existing knowledge and to provide genuine new insights that drive their clients' businesses forward.
This direction of travel has highlighted an area of need for the business to appoint a Data Strategist to champion data analytics within the business, to get the most out of available data sets, to answer clients' questions, solve problems on their most complex and commercial quantitative programmes and to drive skill development within the research team. All of their researchers are hands on with data processing and data manipulation, but the workload is increasing, and they seek someone to own and drive forward this area of expertise within the business. Someone who is excited about getting stuck in and getting their hands dirty with data. To do this you will work alongside researchers at all levels and be supported by a wider team of trusted freelancers and data partners.
We are more interested in what you have done rather than where you do it. They are not looking for an individual that will simply follow instructions from a researcher or DP spec, but someone that can proactively drive the structuring and manipulation of a data set to answer questions. Someone with an inquisitive mind who enjoys thinking about how they can investigate and interpret data to solve problems.
You could well be a client facing researcher who enjoys and wants to focus on data, analytics and storytelling, or someone working in a marketing science, data science or advanced analytics team who wants more freedom, flexibility and independence.
You should be able to display a proven experience and understanding of working with customer insight and marketing research data sets. You should have the ability to understand and work with (potentially large and complex) data sets from a range of sources and in a range of formats (e.g. survey data, sales data, big data etc). You will ideally be an expert in Q and SPSS and have had exposure to R. A clear understanding of different statistical techniques and knowledge of advanced analytical techniques and their application would be a great advantage.
This is a new role for the consultancy so a genuine opportunity to really shape things for you and them.
