In Australia, communications agency Think HQ has appointed qual researcher Som Sengmany as Multicultural Insights Director in its CultureVerse division, which provides diverse research, strategy and creative production.
Since launch in 2010, Think HQ has grown from a PR company into an integrated communications agency, working on projects that drive social good. Last year, the firm brought its research department in-house. Sengmany (pictured) joins CultureVerse with fifteen years' industry experience and research expertise, to develop 'culturally appropriate' comms and engagement strategies and research approaches for multicultural audiences.
He recently completed a PhD in Multicultural Communications at Deakin University, where his research investigated how comms practitioners working in Victoria understood multiculturalism and cultural diversity. Earlier, he was an independent digital communications and marketing consultant, and he led social media for not-for-profit healthcare organisation the Lupus Foundation.
In his new role, Sengmany will also work with the broader Think HQ team to develop inclusive comms strategies and research approaches for clients who want to add culturally and linguistically diverse audience perspectives into their campaigns and projects. Commenting on the appointment, Think HQ founder and MD Jen Sharpe said: 'Som brings a powerful combination of practical knowledge with academically trained research skills to the development of evidence-based communications strategies. His insights and research will be invaluable to both CultureVerse and the wider Think HQ teams and clients seeking to communicate and engage with diverse CALD* audiences and communities'.
