Nielsen has appointed Jared Grusd as CEO of its Gracenote media and entertainment data subsidiary. Sujit Dasmunshi, who has been leading the business as Gracenote's General Manager, will now step into the role of Chief Operating Officer.
Nielsen acquired Gracenote in 2016 from Tribune Media Company, in a $560m cash deal; quickly adopted its 'IDs' as the standard content identifier across all Nielsen audience measurement solutions, and has continued to build its video, analytics and personalization capabilities. Today it provides entertainment metadata, connected IDs and related services powering advanced content navigation and discovery capabilities linking consumers to their favorite TV shows, movies, music, podcasts and sports - and uses the data from this for content analytics to help business partners.
Grusd joins from Ethiqly AI, a venture-backed educational tech company which he co-founded. Before this he worked as Chief Strategy Officer at Snapchat, Chime, and AOL, as well as Chief Legal Officer at Spotify and CEO at HuffPost. He also worked in senior executive roles at Google. In his new role he will aim to accelerate Gracenote's growth and drive product development as Nielsen continues to advance its Convergent TV strategy. Dasmunshi, as COO, will also continue to play a critical role in growing the business.
Nielsen Chief Executive Karthik Rao comments: 'Gracenote is a critical part of Nielsen and our strategy as we look to grow in streaming and lead the advancement of Convergent TV in the media measurement industry. Jared's background and passion for transforming businesses to improve society is aligned with our future and I'm grateful for his partnership as we transform our industry together'.
