In the UK, former BBC Head of Audiences Penny Young has become Chief Executive of the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen). She replaces Norman Glass, who died at home on Saturday at the age of 63 following some months of illness
Young joined the BBC Trust - the body that represents licence fee payers - in 2005, where she led a programme of research and engagement which included conducting large-scale quant public surveys, qual research, deliberative research and content analysis.
Prior to this, she was Research Director at consumer campaigner Which?, and worked at the BBC in a variety of roles including managing radio audience research. Earlier in her career, Young spent two years at NatCen, and three years at the Office of National Statistics.
'NatCen deservedly has an incredible reputation for providing high quality information, and tackling difficult subjects using innovative methodologies. I'm delighted to be working with such talented colleagues across the organisation, and look forward to us delivering even more insight that will have real impact on social policy,' said Young.
NatCen is best known for the British Social Attitudes Survey, but also conducts research in the areas of gambling, sexual behaviour, drug and alcohol use.
