American telecoms conglomerate Comcast has hired James Rooke to lead its Effectv business, which combines the targeting and measurement of digital, with the reach and impact of TV. He will oversee a 3,500-person team across data innovation and insights, sales, ops, tech, product, and CX.
Currently, Rooke is General Manager of FreeWheel Publishers, a part of Comcast Advertising which also owns Effectv. In this role, he oversees the global business unit responsible for providing television programmers and distributors with ad technology, software and data to manage the monetization of their video content. Earlier, he was VP of Strategy & Execution at ad sales business Spectrum Reach; and he served as Head of Strategy and Transformation for the Media and Entertainment consulting practice at Capgemini in New York, and as a Senior Consultant at Ernst and Young in London.
In his new NYC-based role, commencing January 1st, Rooke will report to Comcast Advertising President Marcien Jenckes, who comments: 'James is smart and inquisitive and brings a strong understanding of both the TV and digital sides of the business, having held leadership roles across several industries, including pay TV, cable, media, publishing and sales. In short, he grew up in cable ad sales and has literally helped build the future of the industry as we know it today. He is a standout leader to guide Effectv into its next chapter'.
