Nielsen has launched what it claims is the world's first passive in-car measurement system, using a combination of proprietary algorithms and the 'accelerometer' built into its Portable People Meter, which can identify and report when a panellist is inside a vehicle. The service, which has been four years in development and testing, will provide clients in Norway with insights around in-car audio consumption. Results from the first two weeks of 2020 indicate that 17% of all listening minutes took place in the car, with the share of listening minutes highest among the age group 30-49 (27%); 21% of whom were men and 14% were women.
Ragnhild Herlofsen (pictured), Nielsen's Norwegian Media Lead, comments: 'It's a pleasure to announce that we are able to offer this additional dimension to our measurement. The Norwegian audio broadcasters are top of the class when it comes to collaboration and allowing for joint industry developments, and this global launch is another result of this'.
