In the UK, specialist MR recruiters Sarah Penny and Inger Christensen have launched 'Daughters of Sailors' a new firm offering insight agencies flexible in-house freelance support with their recruitment.
The two - who are indeed the daughters, respectively, of Royal Navy and Swedish supertanker personnel - met at London-based recruitment firm RPCushing (now Aspire) in 2006, since when they have worked for other MR sector firms. Penny was General Manager at Hasson Associates before starting her own consultancy, and has recently been combining this with work as an in-house recruiter for clients including Verve and Incite. Christensen diversified into career consultancy in 2009 and four years later helped to launch Hannelius Recruitment.
Penny says of the new venture: 'We have spoken to clients and contacts in the industry and they really welcome the idea. We offer a flexible, transparent and collaborative alternative to traditional recruitment. We charge a day rate, and we can cover the entire process, or help with parts of it, such as building a screened shortlist of candidates'. She adds: 'We both love the people and their businesses in MR and we love nurturing our networks. We look forward to connecting with clients in a fresh and agile way - it feels right for this time'.
