Kin + Carta Buys Cascade Data Labs

Digital marketing services group Kin + Carta has acquired US-based data transformation consultancy Cascade Data Labs, for a price that could reach $29.7m.

Portland, OR-based Cascade translates underutilized, raw data into objects that can be used by analysts and data scientists to help companies optimize their business operations. Services include statistical analysis across vast data sets, to uncover insights and recommendations; data visualization through proprietary dashboards; and advisory services tapping its cross-functional skill sets to help clients develop data strategies and structured governance to streamline their data processes.

Kin + Carta, which also offers MR consultancy services through Incite, previously merged three of its businesses - Response One, Amaze One and Occam - to create a new agency combining data science and marketing technology, with a focus on the intelligent application of data. The group says the acquisition of Cascade supports the expansion of its own data capabilities and expansion into the US, following the recent appointment of Cameron Turner (pictured) as Vice President of Data Science. As part of the deal, Cascade's founders Josh Levin and Greg Holiat will take leadership roles alongside Turner in Kin and Carta's Data Transformation practice.

The initial consideration for Cascade is $6.9m payable in cash at completion, with a further $2.2m payable next June, dependent on performance. A further deferred element is contingent on adjusted EBITDA performance during the next two years, and the total consideration is capped at $29.7m. Completion of the acquisition is expected to take place tomorrow.
