In the US, open-source data integration platform Airbyte has raised $150m in a Series B round of funding, valuing the company at $1.5 billion.Co-founded in 2020 by former Liveramp exec Michel Tricot and entrepreneur John Lafleur, and headquartered in San Francisco, Airbyte syncs data from applications, APIs and databases to data warehouses, lakes and other destinations. The company provides the infrastructure to enable users to collect and move their data securely, whatever tools they use. Tricot says that by the end of 2022, the firm is planning to cover more types of data movement, including reverse-ETL (extract, load, transform) and streaming ingestion.
New funding has been led by Altimeter Capital and Coatue Management, with participation from Thrive Capital, Salesforce Ventures, Benchmark, Accel and SV Angel, and brings the total raised to date to $181.2m. Jamin Ball, Partner at Altimeter Capital, comments: 'Airbyte has already made a huge impact in a very short period of time and has more than 1,000 companies lined up to take advantage of its Airbyte Cloud data service that is starting to roll out'.
