India's Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) has named IPG Mediabrands India CEO Shashi Sinha as President, succeeding Punit Goenka, MD & CEO of Zee Entertainment Enterprises.
BARC India is a Joint Industry Company formed by broadcasters, advertisers and agencies in May 2015. In addition to providing the country's TV ad currency, the organisation now offers a suite of Insight products designed for broadcasters, advertisers and agencies - including PrimaVU, designed to measure viewing in 'premium homes'.
Sinha (pictured) takes over as President after a career which included setting up media planning and buying agency Lodestar, where he led the development of media research and tools. He now manages the group in India, comprising Lodestar, Initiative and BPN.
In addition, Sinha is involved in industry bodies the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) and the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI); is past Chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC); past President of The Ad Club; current Chairman of Readership Studies Council of India (RSCI); and served on BARC's Technical Committee.
Goenka had served in the role for three years.
