Online survey specialist Momentive is to return to its original SurveyMonkey name under the direction of new Chief Executive Officer Eric Johnson. He replaces Zander Lurie, who the firm says has 'stepped down' after seven years leading the company.
San Mateo, California-headquartered SurveyMonkey provides online subscription-based tools through which individuals can create surveys, collect responses and analyze results, along with an Enterprise version for companies wanting to gather, compare and share business-related feedback data. Its GetFeedback division offers software to help companies understand and improve their customer experience. Johnson explains that returning to the SurveyMonkey brand will unify the company's products under a 'single iconic name that has been synonymous with helping customers gather insights and engagement data for decades'.
Johnson (pictured) has been named CEO following the completion of the company's acquisition by an investor consortium led by Symphony Technology Group (STG) in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $1.5bn. He joined the company in 2022 as interim Chief Marketing Officer, after serving as CEO of digital ticketing platform LaneOne; and EVP & General Manager at online content network CBS Interactive. Earlier, he was President of the music streaming and eCommerce business Wolfgang's Vault, having begun his career in investment banking at JPMorgan.
In his new role, Johnson takes over from Lurie, who before taking the position in 2016, was SVP at camcorder manufacturer GoPro, and held senior roles at Guggenheim Digital Media, CBS, CNET Networks and JPMorgan. Johnson says that under Lurie's leadership, the business transformed from a survey provider to an insights company with a strong global footprint and significant market opportunity.
J.T. Treadwell, MD at STG, adds: 'We are excited about the opportunities SurveyMonkey has in front of it, and as we execute against our core priorities, we are enthusiastic to partner with new leadership and welcome Eric as CEO. He joins us with tremendous passion for the SurveyMonkey franchise and people, and we look forward to building the business together.'
