Consumer research platform GWI has appointed former OAG tech leader Nick Dearden as CTO, based in its UK headquarters in London.
GWI's platform taps data on nearly three billion people in more than 50 countries and allows users to research topics including values, purchase journeys, media usage and social media habits. Originally known as GlobalWebIndex, it was founded in 2009 by CEO Tom Smith, and has offices in London, New York, Prague and Athens. The firm has recently partnered with both Nielsen and marcoms group dentsu.
Dearden (pictured) brings more than 25 years of experience in technology, originally as a developer, and in his new role will lead GWI's engineering, IT and security teams, responsible for the company's technology and data management strategy and focusing on the ongoing innovation, scaling and automation of processes. He worked most recently at travel industry data platform OAG, where he led the move to a new cloud data platform. Earlier in his career he led several large technology functions, delivering solutions ranging from video streaming to global travel platforms.
GWI CEO and founder Tom Smith comments: 'We help our customers understand consumers at speed. Our tech is about making it as easy as possible to surface important insights as part of their day-to-day. Some also want the ability to build their own tools and systems on top of our data - using our API and calculations engine. Nick's proven expertise in making difficult to access data available in a unified platform will help us supercharge the innovation in our tech to deliver the best possible solutions to meet both these growing needs'.
