In Los Angeles, content valuation and global entertainment analytics firm Parrot Analytics has launched Streaming Metrics, which promises deeper understanding of the key metrics that drive financial performance across streaming services.
Parrot uses audience behavior data sets - which include video streaming consumption, social media, blogger platforms, file sharing, and peer-to-peer consumption - to put values on content, talent and IP. Its solutions will tell a client how much any TV show or movie is 'worth' on a specific platform in a specific region.
The new Streaming Metrics service models audience data including demand for content, competitive catalog offerings and willingness to pay, to provide those in strategy, finance and competitive analysis roles with access to historical and forecast economic performance metrics. The latter include subscribers, revenue, ARPU and churn, alongside show catalog insights such as exclusivity and 'windowing', on a market-by-market basis across the globe. The new service is underpinned by the firm's Content Valuation system, which assesses the direct impact of content on subscriber growth and retention. For example its data estimated in August that Apple's recent film The Instigators helped the streaming service add about 50,000 subscribers.
The service also provides region and country-level metric breakdowns, allowing clients to benchmark their performance against (streaming) competitors in each market and globally, and tailor their positioning, pricing and growth strategies.
CEO Wared Seger comments: 'The entire entertainment industry wants to understand the key drivers of streaming success. We're excited to finally lift the veil on the streaming landscape with the only empirically verifiable economic attribution system that allows for the comprehensive and global comparison of revenue and other key economic metrics across streaming services globally'.
