New CEO for Cision

January 15 2025

PR and corporate comms solutions group Cision has appointed Guy Abramo as its new CEO, effective immediately. The job has been vacant since the departure of Cali Tran in November.

Guy AbramoCision provides consumer and media intelligence, engagement and communication solutions for clients including PR and corporate communications execs, marketing teams and social media professionals. The group is backed by investor Platinum Equity and is the home of PR Newswire and social media analysis and management solution Brandwatch, the latter acquired in 2021 for $450m. It has recently launched CisionOne, which promises comms and PR teams real-time monitoring across 'all' media channels - print, online, TV, radio, social, podcasts and magazines - with detailed analytics and reporting capabilities, as well as a built-in journalist Outreach tool. In December reports circulated that the company was facing financial 'challenges', and it was revealed that CEO Tran left the job in November, after the group created a new corporate entity, interpreted by some analysts as a prelude to an asset sale or collateral transfer.

Now Cision appears to have moved quickly to fill the gap. Abramo (pictured) brings more than 25 years of leadership experience, most recently from employment data services firm HireRight where he spent six years, leading its IPO in 2021 and its return to private ownership in 2024. Before this he was President of Experian's Consumer Business during seven years at the company, and served as President of software solutions firm Tallan for six years, EVP at Ingram Micro for seven, and an MD at KPMG Consulting for two. Earlier in his career he spent eleven years at oil firm Exxon/Mobil. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from NJIT and an MBA from Georgetown University. He is based in Las Vegas.

Platinum Equity MD Brandon Crawley comments: 'Guy's leadership and ability to deliver results make him the ideal choice to lead Cision into its next chapter. We are confident that under his guidance, Cision will continue to strengthen its position as a trusted partner to our customers while driving growth and innovation'.
