A pioneer of facial and emotional analysis, Affectiva was a partner of iMotions as long ago as 2012, well before both firms were snapped up in quick succession by Smart Eye (Affectiva / iMotions) in 2021. Smart Eye says the two companies between them have more than 1000 customers, and each has strengths in different verticals: iMotions in academia, working with more than 70 of the world's top 100 universities, and Affectiva in commercial sectors, with more than 90 of the world's top 100 advertisers and more than a quarter of Fortune Global 500 companies using its services.
iMotions was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Copenhagen, while Affectiva is based in Boston, USA. In addition to Media Analytics, Affectiva has also developed solutions using its behavioral analysis software in automotive applications, and DRNO understands that these are not included in the iMotions integration.
Peter Hartzbech (pictured), founder & CEO of iMotions comments: 'Fully integrating Affectiva's Media Analytics market research offering as part of iMotions' online research solutions and investing more heavily in the core technology will allow iMotions to expand reach by creating mindshare and technological synergies that will provide every researcher with the multimodal, multi-dimensional research approaches they will need to be successful today and tomorrow'. Martin Krantz, CEO and founder of Smart Eye says the combination is a 'logical next step' for his company and adds: 'we are confident that we will take business growth to the next level, redefining the understanding of human behavior along the way'. Affectiva's Media Analytics MD Graham Page says combining iMotions expertise in sensor-based measurement with Affectiva's deep AI and computer vision capabilities will allow the firm 'to bring far more powerful integrated tools to a much wider market'.
