The U.S Census Bureau has appointed Dr. Ron Jarmin as Acting Director, replacing Robert Santos who left a week ago.

Santos announced his resignation as Director at the end of January.
Jarmin is a career Census Bureau employee, having joined in 1992, and has served as Acting Director before, for a year starting in January 2021. He has been the Bureau's COO and Deputy Director since January 2019, and also performed some of the Director's duties between 2017 and 2019.
Earlier he was the Bureau's Chief Economist and Chief of the Center for Economic Studies, and between 2011 and 2016 he served as Assistant Director for Research and Methodology, overseeing a broad research program in statistics, survey methodology and economics aimed at improving economic and social measurements within the federal statistical system. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Oregon, an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association and author of many published papers.
