Data from web and app analytics firm Similarweb is to be available on the terminals of veteran financial services tech company Bloomberg, as part of its alternative data offering. The deal promises 'near real-time' insights into online traffic performance for around 3,000 public and private companies.

'Alternative data' is a name given in the financial sector to information outside the traditional company and market financial data categories, which can be used to give analysts, investors and others a deeper and more rounded basis for their decisions. It includes survey and market trends data, some general economic indicators, sales and location data.
Similarweb delivers robust web and app analytics sourced from more than 200m devices, 100m web sites and 4m apps worldwide. Under the deal, its granular, daily-level intelligence on web traffic across 190 countries will be delivered on the Bloomberg Terminal, with a 7-day lag and 5 years of history. The data will sit alongside foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai and consumer transaction data analytics from Bloomberg's own Second Measure, as part of the {ALTD
Bloomberg says the addition will allow users to spot trends affecting company performance and potential, giving 'a multi-dimensional view of company performance and macroeconomic shifts.'
