Retail data giant NIQ has announced the promotion of 25-year company veteran Joe Ellis to Managing Director of its India business, based in Mumbai; and the appointment of Dan Bonert as its new Head of Retail Media in North America.
NIQ, which grew out of Nielsen's Buy division and Nielsen Connect, combined with GfK in 2023 to create a new giant in consumer intelligence, with operations in more than 95 countries. Its Indian unit has more than 10,000 associated in three regional commercial offices, and includes the world's largest traditional trade measurement panel.
Ellis (pictured above) began working for what was then Nielsen in the Westport (USA) office, and has since led multiple regional and global verticals. His experience includes two previous assignments in India: establishing the company's proprietary simulated test marketing division, BASES, in 2004; and leading the expansion and digitization of the retail measurement services in 2013. Recently he has served as Global Head of the group's Automotive, Tech, Telco and Finance verticals. He comments: 'The pace of change in India is unprecedented. With a diverse economic base, a vast untapped consumer market, a significant demographic advantage, rapid digitization, substantial FDI inflows, and a deeply ingrained spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship, India is an energizing and exciting market for us'.
Bonert (pictured below) will be based in NIQ's headquarters in Chicago, and brings more than 25 years' experience from roles at firms including The Trade Desk and Amazon. At the former, he brought new retail media solutions to market, and at the latter he led the expansion of the CPG Food and Confectionery ad offerings business.
NIQ launched a Media Division a year ago, and says the appointment is another step in 'building out its multi-pronged media strategy'. Bonert will focus on driving innovation in the ways manufacturers and retailers connect with shoppers, providing actionable insights to optimize retail media performance.
