Newcastle and London-based research consultancy Differentology has promoted Mark James to the position of Chief Executive Officer, while Lizzie Gilthorpe takes over his previous role as Managing Director. Head of Research James Dickie and Head of Insight Dan Brilot complete the senior team.
Differentology, which is part of the e>erything d.fferent group, offers bespoke research to uncover what moves and motivates groups of people. It then helps clients apply these 'human truths' to concepts, journeys, products and positioning before adopting a co-creation approach to spark ideas, and using 'creative communication' to disseminate the findings.
James joined in 2013 as Director of Insight, and for the past two years has served as the company's MD. Earlier, he worked for media research agency Other Lines of Enquiry, latterly as Research Director, having begun his career at its sister company, media and marketing communications specialist Dipsticks Research. Gilthorpe most recently served as Head of Strategy, after joining the firm in 2015 from London-based brand strategy and insight consultancy Sparkler, where she worked as a Senior Consultant.
James will now oversee development across the firm's London and Newcastle offices, while also focusing on strategic areas of growth; while Gilthorpe will oversee both the consultancy's cultural and strategic growth strategy and its new structure, which aims to allow multi-disciplined project teams to combine their skillsets to meet client demands.
Commenting on Gilthorpe's promotion, James said: 'Over the past twelve months, Lizzie has provided a significant contribution to the strategic direction of the business, helped to shape what we stand for as a brand, and has played a major role in embedding creativity into everything we do. She leads by example, and I'm personally very proud of the progress she has made in her career to date'.
