Former Nielsen COO Steve Hasker has joined business information services giant Thomson Reuters as President and Chief Executive Officer, starting March 15th. He takes over from Jim Smith, who will move into the position of Chairman of the Thomson Reuters Foundation.Thomson Reuters offers products including information-enabled software and tools for legal, tax, accounting and compliance professionals, combined with its global news service - Reuters. Hasker (pictured) joins after a career which started at PwC and then McKinsey, before he spent more than eight years at Nielsen - initially as President, Media Product Leadership and Advertiser Solutions, and latterly as Global President and COO of Nielsen Holdings, overseeing all commercial data and product-related activities for both the media and consumer businesses. More recently, he served as CEO of American entertainment and sports agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA), before joining global asset firm TBG as a Senior Advisor.
He will take over the President and CEO role from Smith, who will then chair the Thomson Reuters Foundation, which focuses on media freedom, inclusive economies, and access to justice around the world. In addition, Mike Eastwood has been appointed Senior Vice President and Head of Corporate Finance, succeeding current CFO Stephane Bello, who will become Vice Chairman of Thomson Reuters.
Commenting on the announcement, Smith said: 'This is the right time to pass the baton to the next generation of leadership, given the continued success of our business and the spin-off of our market data and trading operations. Steve's deep expertise in data, business information, technology and professional services is just what we need to capitalize on the many opportunities the future holds. I am confident handing over the reins and happy to welcome him'.
