Media conglomerate ZEE Entertainment has appointed long-time Diageo CMO Amrit Thomas as Chief Data Officer, based out of its Technology & Innovation Centre in Bengaluru. He replaces Ujjyaini Mitra, who since leaving in September has founded data solutions company theDeltacube.ai.
Headquartered in Mumbai, ZEE Entertainment has a presence in more than 190 countries and a reach of over 1.3 billion people around the globe. The business delivers a range of broadcasting, movies, music, digital, live entertainment and theatre content, and it has also produced several movies for theatrical release.
Thomas (pictured) most recently served as Chief Marketing Officer, Europe at drinks brand Diageo, and during his thirteen years at the company was also CMO for Diageo India. Earlier, he spent sixteen years at Hindustan Unilever, latterly as Category Head for Beverages, responsible for P&L and market share.
In his new role, Thomas is charged with helping to build out ZEE's data analytics function, reporting to Nitin Mittal, President - Technology & Data. Mitra, whom he replaces, held the CDO role for nearly a year, having previously been Head of Data at ZEE5; Head of Analytics at Viacom 18; AD, Analytics CP Business Finance at Flipkart, and Head of Analytics at Airtel.
