In the US, consumer intent analysis platform System1 has acquired NextGen Shopping's CouponFollow, which has millions of subscribers to its e-mail newsletter and works with over 5,000 brand partners. System1 is paying up to $115m, in a combination of cash and stock, over three years.CouponFollow is a real-time coupon code search engine and directory that helps millions of consumers save money each month. The firm also provides tools, guides, research and reports, including the Millennial Shopping Report, which analyses current trends, attitudes and behavior affecting purchasing decisions and identifies ways to boost consumer engagement and loyalty.
System1, which was co-founded by former Research Now director Michael Blend (pictured left) and former Amazon analyst Chuck Ursini (right), has developed a platform which analyses billions of consumer attributes and uses 'pre-targeting' algorithms to unlock consumer intent across various channels. The firm says the acquisition accelerates its own eCommerce efforts and provides a suite of shopping-related products to integrate across its own product lines.
Blend comments: 'With eCommerce's continued spending growth, we see a tremendous opportunity to leverage our RAMP [Responsive Acquisition Marketing Platform] customer acquisition platform to further scale CouponFollow's business. Marc Mezzacca, founder and CEO of NextGen Shopping, and his team have built a great product and bring a wealth of expertise in retail, digital coupons and SEO to System1. We are thrilled to welcome them to the team'.
