In the US, music sector software developer Cipolla Analytics has appointed long-time media researcher Ed Cohen as Chief Research Officer, overseeing the expansion of its SpotGPS intelligence software for radio.
SpotGPS provides a tool for radio programmers, transforming airplay data into commercial content analysis in a 'colorful and compelling' visual form. Cohen (pictured) joins from Cumulus Media, where he served as VP, Ratings and Research, before which he led Nielsen Audio's connected car streaming audio research initiative as VP, Measurement Innovation. Earlier Cohen was VP, Measurement Innovation at Arbitron (acquired by Nielsen in 2013), having previously spent five years as the firm's VP, Research Policy and Communication and eight years as its VP Domestic Radio Research. He has also worked as VP, Research for iHeartMedia/Clear Channel, and held research positions at the National Association of Broadcasters and Birch/Scarborough Research.
Commenting on the appointment, Cipolla Analytics' founder and President Ralph Cipolla said: 'Partnering with Ed is the final piece of the SpotGPS puzzle. There is no one in the business better qualified to help our clients interpret SpotGPS data and craft a set of action steps that will ensure their stations are PPM-ready, every quarter-hour of the week'.
