ESOMAR Schedules EGM, Plans New Elections

December 8 2022

Following last week's news that ESOMAR is to rerun its Council elections after uncovering 'serious misconduct', the industry body is to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to schedule the rerun, agree an extension to the sitting Council's term, and brief members on its investigation.

Pravin ShekarOn Friday, ESOMAR announced that during an investigation into the running of its Council elections, sufficient evidence had been found that interference occurred during the process, and the results have now been considered invalid.

In a message to ESOMAR members, interim CEO Pravin Shekar (pictured) explained that election committee member Dan Foreman has proposed a motion, seconded by Niels Schillewaert, suggesting that an extension be provided to the sitting Council until the new Council is elected and ready to take its place. The motion states that the elections must take place by March 2023.

The EGM will be held via video conference on 13th and 14th December, to enable members around the world to join, and voting will only be possible for those in attendance. Following the presentation from the election committee and an explanation of the motion, a polling link will be e-mailed to each of the registered participants.
