In the US, journalist blog site Mediabistro has launched 'Election Tracker'; a Facebook fan tracking tool for the 2010 midterm elections.New York-based Mediabistro is part of WebMediaBrands, which provides content, education, trade shows, and online job board services to media and business professionals.
Its new tool has been designed to enable users to follow how Senate, House and Gubernatorial races are shaping up, based on each candidate's Facebook fan base.
Powered by AllFacebook's 'Facebook Page' statistics tools, Election Tracker offers analysis of how candidates are using the social media platform to engage with their constituents, or those they hope to represent.
Information on the tracker will be continually updated in the period leading up the November 2 vote.
At the moment, Election Tracker shows that in-cycle Democrats have 1.25+ million Facebook fans, while Republicans have more than 3 million fans, and Independents have 46,000 fans.
