Nielsen has promoted Karthik Rao to the position of Managing Director of its Greater China region, based in its Shanghai office.
Most recently, Rao was MD, Consumer Research and BASES, covering Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, China and India. He joined the firm in 2000, working in the BASES business in the US for six years, and then led that business in Japan for two years. Rao subsequently assumed responsibilities for BASES in the Asia Pacific region in 2008.
Earlier in his career, he spent a number of years with advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather in India.
In his new role, he reports to Nielsen Greater China President Mitch Barns, who comments: 'We are very fortunate to have a talented executive like Karthik Rao, whose exceptional strengths and experiences we can draw upon as we help grow our clients' and our business in this diverse region.'
