In the US, social media analytics specialist Viralheat has secured $4.25m in a Series A funding, which will be used to expand its engineering team and to create new analytics and engagement products and services.Founded in January 2009 by Rajeev Kadam and Vishal Sankhla, the Viralheat platform monitors content and engagement on the web and across social networks. It can be used to spot trends and sentiment, identify influencers and perform competitive analysis.
Building on its core offering, Viralheat recently launched into beta a new 'human intent' solution, which it says identifies those on the verge of a purchasing decision, in real-time.
'Social media monitoring and so-called listening as we know it is commoditized and doesn't provide the insights that today's businesses seek,' states Kadam. 'The next frontier for this market is future-tense intelligence and analytics that tell you what is going to happen - not merely what has happened.'
The firm's new funding has been led by venture company Mayfield Fund, and follows a seed round of $75,000.
