In the US, MTV Networks has partnered with social intelligence firm Trendrr to launch a ranking tool called MovieTracker, through which fans can rank the top 25 films according to the social buzz surrounding each title. The tool, found on its www.nextmovie.com site, ranks films based on a proprietary algorithm which factors in the volume and sentiment of conversations across Twitter, Facebook and the blogosphere.
Continually updated, the tool can provide a real-time look at conversations around the top 25 movies. Interactive rankings show fans how films are moving up or down the chart, how long each title has been tracked, the positive/negative sentiment for every film and each film's buzz count - which the firms describe as an overall measure of 'buzzworthiness'.
Fans are encouraged to interact with the rankings and to tweet comments directly about their favorite films.
Mark Ghuneim, CEO of Trendrr comments: 'People are sharing their thoughts and emotions in real-time, this is the first movie chart to process, rank and reflect those conversations as they happen. It's a smart visual rendering of conversational data that can educate audiences, inspire conversations and break emotional ground.'
