The UK-based Independent Consultants Group (ICG) has launched a new guide to Commissioning Qualitative Research. The guide was written by Gill Wales of Gill Wales Research and edited by Lesley Thompson of Changes Research.
The guide sets out some common problems that arise when commissioning qualitative research and gives advice on how to avoid them. It is divided up into sections such as: Beware of loose briefs; Sample sensibly; Researching children and Manage your expectations.
Wales says the guide is 'not for beginners' and not a qualitative researchers' training tool, but 'for clients who already commission qualitative research and who want to make sure they get the best out of it.'
The ICG is an affiliation of over 350 research professionals with an average of 25 years' experience. Although based in the UK, it also has members elsewhere in the world.
The report can be downloaded at: www.theicg.co.uk/documents/commissioning-qualitative-research.pdf .
