German TV station partnership the Arbeits-gemeinschaft Fernsehforschung (AGF), has re-commissioned GfK to monitor TV viewing in Germany, initially until 2018. GfK has been providing the service since 1985, and the new contract is valued at around EUR 130m.AGF comprises television stations ARD, ProSiebenSat.1, RTL Media Group Germany and ZDF, as well as licensed TV stations, advertisers and advertising agencies.
Through the new contract, TV viewing in Germany will be measured via a panel of 5,000 reporting households using the GfK TC score measurement device, supplemented by the GfK UMX measurement technology which is based on the principle of audio-matching. Data will be made available to TV stations, their advertising sales organizations, media agencies and advertisers on a daily basis.
Measurement of TV consumption in German IPTV households was introduced a few months ago.
