In the UK, NatCen Social Research has promoted Kirby Swales to head up its Income and Work team, leading sixteen methodological researchers who specialise in employment, skills and income studies. The team provides expertise to a variety of clients, from government departments to businesses and third sector organisations, and is responsible for delivering large-scale, quant studies such as the Family Resources Survey and Work Employment Relations Study. It also delivers smaller qual projects exploring topics such as older people's attitudes to pensions, together with secondary analysis of studies such as the organisation's work with Demos to understand poverty in depth.
Swales (pictured), who joined NatCen in March to lead on delivering the 'Understanding Society' study, previously spent six years at non-profit social enterprise Renaisi, latterly as Director of Neighbourhoods and Communities. Prior to this he was a Team Leader at the Department for Communities and Local Government, and he worked for the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) as Principal Research Officer.
NatCen CEO Penny Young comments: 'Our Income and Work team delivers some of the UK's most important employment, skills and income related studies so we are delighted to have someone with Kirby's research expertise and leadership experience running this significant part of our business.'
