Big data analytics firm Calpont has changed its name to InfiniDB, and secured $7.5m in new funding, which it plans to invest in growing its share of the Hadoop market through continued product development and the expansion of marketing, partner, and sales channels.Launched in 2010, Frisco,TX-based InfiniDB offers big data analytics to help businesses reduce costs, increase operational efficiencies, and uncover new business opportunities. Its products are specifically designed for large scale business intelligence analytics and big data environments, and are used by media, wireless and web analytics firms for applications such as advertising, digital content, and marketing attribution.
New funding has been led by previous investor McDonnell Ventures, whose founder Jack McDonnell serves as InfiniDB's CEO. In a statement, McDonnell said that the re-brand simplifies and aligns the company and product branding.
Bob Wilkinson (pictured), Chief Operation Officer, adds: 'There are two primary drivers for the immediate interest and success for InfiniDB in the Hadoop market. The first is that InfiniDB gives organizations value from their data in real-time, and the second is that InfiniDB brings SQL accessibility to Hadoop data via a MySQL front end, so organizations can leverage existing skills and talent rather than seek out specialized big data or Hadoop expertise.'
