NatCen CEO Penny Young is leaving the organisation to take up the position of House of Commons Librarian and Director General, Information Services.Young (pictured) joined NatCen in 2009 following the death of former CEO Norman Glass. Before this, she served as Head of Audiences at the BBC Trust, was Research Director at consumer campaigner Which? and spent a decade in a number of roles at the BBC. Earlier in her career, she worked at NatCen and the Office of National Statistics.
Professor Sir Bob Burgess, Chair of the Board of Trustees, comments: 'During her tenure, Penny has led a wide ranging improvement programme. NatCen's work is now much better known and used by decision makers and we continue to win and deliver the most challenging portfolio of social science. Penny has also led the business through tough but necessary restructuring and modernisation in response to a difficult commissioning environment.'
Young described leading NatCen as having been a 'tremendous privilege'. The Board will announce the exact timing of her departure and plans for recruiting a successor in due course.
