In San Francisco, business intelligence specialist DataFox has raised $5m in a seed round of investment funding, which it will use to hire new staff for its sales, marketing, engineering, design, and data science teams.Founded in 2013 by Stanford alumni Bastiaan Janmaat, Ben Trombley, Mike Dorsey and Alden Timme, DataFox uses natural language processing and proprietary algorithms to interpret information about companies, sectors and people, automatically combining massive public data sets with cleaned-up client data to replace legacy manual processes.
The new funding round has been led by Goldman Sachs and Green Visor Capital, with participation from previous investor Stanford's StartX fund. It follows an earlier $2m investment completed via a convertible note.
