Online DIY survey specialist SurveyMonkey has hired Pollster.com co-founder Mark Blumenthal for the newly created role of Head of Election Polling, based in Washington DC.
Blumenthal (pictured) joins after five years at The Huffington Post where as Senior Polling Editor he was responsible for the Pollster section, analyzing and sharing thousands of election polls. Prior to this, he helped set up and run opinion poll platform Pollster.com which attracted more than 27 million visitors and 86 million page views before its sale to The Huffington Post in 2010. Earlier, he worked in public opinion research at political polling firm Bennett, Petts and Blumenthal, and as an Analyst at Hickman-Maslin Research and Greenberg-Lake. He is the recipient of the 2007 Warren J Mitofsky Innovators Award from the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR).
In his new role, Blumenthal joins SurveyMonkey's survey research team, which includes Jon Cohen, former lead pollster at The Washington Post and VP of Research at Pew Research. Commenting on the appointment, Cohen said: 'For more than a decade, Mark has been one of the most incisive chroniclers of the dramatic changes facing our industry, and he's a master at breaking down complex methodology. He is exactly the right person for the job as we develop, perfect, and explain new techniques for our customers'.
