Broadcaster Channel 4 has hired neuroscientist Greg Detre for a newly created position, Chief Data Scientist, with a remit to 'revolutionise' how the business uses behavioural data for both commercial and creative ends.Detre (pictured) joins with seventeen years' software engineering experience across a dozen programming languages, and scientific training from Oxford, Harvard and Princeton. Most recently, he served as Chief Technology Officer of automated behavioural program creator Big Health/Sleepio, prior to which he led The Guardian's Data Science team. Earlier, he co-founded online learning platform Memrise.
As part of Channel 4's Consumer Insights team, reporting to Head of Data Planning & Analytics Sanjeevan Bala, Detre will be responsible for helping boost the company's broadcasting data science abilities. He will also work with the team to build new data-driven products across the business.
