Berlin-based JustWatch, which collects anonymous user data about the movie taste and purchasing behavior of more than 75 million movie fans, has hired former Sony Pictures SVP Aaron Wahle to lead its Los Angeles office.Founded in 2014, JustWatch uses viewer data to run targeted campaigns for film distributors, primarily on YouTube and Facebook. In addition, the move fan data is used to understand the end consumer, and first party data is used to run and track movie industry campaigns.
Wahle (pictured) takes the title of SVP, Marketing and Business Development. He previously spent five years at Sony Pictures Entertainment, latterly as VP, International Digital Marketing. Before this, he worked for shopper engagement agency Lunchbox as Group Director, Client Services; and full-service digital agency BLITZ as VP, Account Director, and earlier he was Director of Digital Media at Ovation TV.
While at Sony, Wahle worked with JustWatch, and the firm's founder and CEO David Croyé says it is a compliment that as a customer, Wahle saw his company's work first-hand and has ended up taking a job there.
