SurveyMonkey Launches Inclusion Questionnaire Template

June 29 2018

In the US, SurveyMonkey has partnered with workplace development specialist Paradigm Strategy to launch the Belonging & Inclusion survey template, which uses behavioral science to help firms determine which areas to focus on to foster an inclusive workplace.

Sarah ChoUsing social science research from academics at Stanford University, SurveyMonkey and Paradigm collaborated on a set of measures to assess an employee's sense of inclusion in the workplace, across race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and other factors. After testing the methodology and survey questions with more than 10,000 US employees, the companies found three areas that impact whether underrepresented groups feel included in the workplace - a 'growth mindset' with organizations believing that people can evolve and learn; 'belonging uncertainty' describing the state of wondering whether others will include, value, and respect the individual; and 'objectivity' defined as the perception that advancement is based on fair and transparent criteria. The questions in the Belonging & Inclusion template are designed to measure sentiment in these three areas.

The new framework will be available as part of SurveyMonkey's library of more than 200 templates, which also includes employee surveys to help measure employee engagement and performance, satisfaction with benefits and compensation. Research Director Sarah Cho (pictured) comments: 'Having a way to measure sentiment is key in helping organizations to break down the divide about whether there are still significant obstacles facing racial and ethnic minorities and women, and to understand what is driving those employee experiences'.
