FiscalNote Buys News and Analysis Firm CQ Roll Call

Washington, DC-based software and media company FiscalNote has acquired government news and data specialist CQ Roll Call from The Economist Group for $180m. As part of the deal, the Economist Group has taken an 18% equity stake in FiscalNote.

CQ Roll Call provides resources for public sector and political professionals and offers a source of objective news and analysis on government and electoral politics. The acquisition combines its journalism and content with FiscalNote's proprietary technology, along with services that provide access to large quantities of data, news and analysis for all levels of government.

As part of the transaction, financial data and ratings group S&P Global has taken an equity investment in FiscalNote and appointed Mark Blake, its Global Head of Corporate Development, as a Board Observer. FiscalNote founder Tim Hwang remains the largest individual shareholder and will now lead the company as Chairman and CEO; and Chris Stibbs, CEO of The Economist Group, will join the Board of Directors. FiscalNote plans to expand its current Pennsylvania Avenue office, bringing the combined company under one roof.
