Data-driven performance marketing agency Merkle has hired Simon Rice for the newly created role of Data Protection Officer (DPO) for the EMEA region, tasked with ensuring the firm's continuing compliance with GDPR.Owned by Dentsu Aegis, Merkle uses its skills in technology and analytics to understand consumers and drive people-based marketing strategies. Rice (pictured) joins from Lloyds Banking Group where he was Lead Security Domain Engineer, supporting cyber and data security programmes for the bank. Prior to that, he was Head of Technology (Policy) at the Information Commissioner's Office, leading and developing its technical and information security expertise.
In his new role, Rice will act as an independent advisor to the business, while engaging with regulators. He replaces Mark Keddie, Data Protection Officer at Dentsu Aegis Network, who held the role on a temporary basis.
