UK company The Student Room has acquired market research firm Vincent Consulting, for an undisclosed sum, and will use it as the base for a new research division, TSR Insight. The Student Room was founded in 2001, has over 3 million registered members, primarily aged between 14 and 24 and attracts over eight million visitors a month, making it the world's largest online student community and the UK's no.1 education web site according to Comscore data quoted by the firm. It offers ' a safe space for students to support each other and gain advice on their studies, exams and personal concerns', while giving b2b clients a range of advertising, database marketing and content services. Headquartered in Brighton, it now has a second office in Sheffield, as a result of the acquisition.
TSR Insight will be led by Vincent Consulting's founder Julie Vincent (pictured) and have exclusive access to its parent firm's community for its research. The acquisition and launch will 'significantly extend The Student Room's range of research, insight and data services in the education, government and consumer sectors', according to the company.
Pete Barnes, MD of The Student Room says the buy will allow the company to help its existing and new clients in the world of youth marketing and gain deeper insights into the motivations and concerns of young people. He adds: 'The Student Room is constantly evolving, and I am confident that TSR Insight will be exceptionally well received by the market'. Vincent says the combination gives her firm 'a vastly enhanced offer' at 'a challenging time for young people, students and universities'.
