Sourcetable Promises Spreadsheet Revolution

April 1 2025

In San Francisco, a new company called Sourcetable has launched a spreadsheet package which it says 'uses AI to democratize data analysis for everyone' - on the back of a $4.3m seed funding round.

Eoin McMillan and Andrew GrosserThe company says that around 750 million people use spreadsheets every day but 'only 20% know how to use basic functions like VLOOKUP or create a pivot table, leaving powerful insights inaccessible to the vast majority of us'. Founded by Eoin McMillan and Andrew Grosser (pictured left and right respectively), Sourcetable allows users to simply state what they want done through natural language commands, either via a keyboard or voice.

The firm says its full 'self-driving' spreadsheet autopilot capabilities are a first. This autopilot mode can create and edit financial models, generate spreadsheet templates, build pivot tables (something the firm says Google Sheets' AI 'struggles with'), clean data, and create charts and graphs, among many other tasks. The company also says it can 'understand data context without requiring users to pre-select ranges, interpret multiple ranges across different tabs, work with messy data, and seek human clarification when instructions are unclear'.

'AI is the biggest platform shift since the browser' says CEO McMillan, 'with a bigger opportunity for disruption. Sourcetable is building the AI spreadsheet for the next billion users, be they human or AI. As AI makes analysis easier, everybody will become an analyst. Sourcetable's AI automation ushers in a new era of productivity and human cognition'.

The round was led by Bee Partners with participation from four individual investors.

The firm plans to evolve its offering into a full-scale platform for AI agents and applications which it says will 'redefine how businesses interact with data'.
