Worldwide MR Association ESOMAR has launched an award to promote the development and wider application of rigorous standards of research. The John Downham Excellence Award for Standards of Performance carries a prize of Euros 10,000.
The winner of the 2005 prize will be announced and the first Award presented at ESOMAR's Annual Congress in Cannes in September. Downham, in whose honour the Award is named, has been a key figure in developing international codes and guidelines over many years.
The Award can be won by an individual or organisation, whether or not they are a member of ESOMAR. Nominations must be made by an ESOMAR member and members are free to nominate themselves or their colleagues. Current ESOMAR Council members, however, are not eligible for the award. Initiatives can include, but are not limited to innovative or rigorous approaches that encourage or broaden the application of standards and add credibility to the profession.
The Award will be given on the basis of a written submission of up to 750 words, which must clearly articulate how the initiative or achievements created a successful outcome and a positive impact on the profession.
ESOMAR President José Wert says the association wants to 'motivate individuals and companies by celebrating the highest standards of professional integrity. ESOMAR wants to challenge people to keep the market research industry in continuous development and growth'. Web site: www.esomar.org
