Canadian MR and polling firm Leger Marketing has acquired Alberta's Criterion Research Corporation. The buy makes Leger one of the largest Canadian-owned agencies and gives it offices across the nation. Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.
Leger adds Criterion's 150 employees to more than 350 of its own, and has offices in Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton plus New York City and Shanghai. The company will increase its operational capacity to 200 CATI interviewing stations in three call centres, and now has seven focus group rooms covering all regions of the country.
President Jean-Marc Léger says Criterion is recognised as 'the best research firm in Alberta' and for this reason its senior staff will remain in place, with Maureen McCaw staying as President of Leger's Alberta office. According to McCaw, joining with Leger increases the opportunities for growth of a company founded almost 20 years ago: 'For the company to grow, for the staff's professional development and for the opportunity of offering exceptional services to our clientele, we needed to associate with a young and dynamic company that is universally recognized in the country for the quality of its products and services'.
