Ratings giant Arbitron is to formally open its fully owned subsidiary, Arbitron India, in Kochi, Kerala on January 5. Investment in the scheme has so far totalled more than $10m.
The center will be a facility for software engineering, R&D, and product development to support the firm's vision to serve the media and market research industry worldwide.
MD Shilen Sagunan and Analytics Manager Vijoy Gopalakrishnan explained that the Kochi centre will also play a key role in the development of technology, and provide operational support for the implementation of the firm's flagship service, Portable People Meter (PPM), and other products which are being installed throughout the US and other countries.
Arbitron India will initially employ 280 staff, and expects this number to double within the year. Chairman, President and CEO Steve Morris will perform the opening.
Last week the firm announced accelerated plans to introduce cellphone-only sampling to all diary markets by 2009.
