ReconMR to Conduct Gallup's US Telephone Work

February 6 2025

In the US, veteran public and private sector researcher Gallup has announced a strategic partnership with Texas-based data collection and research services firm ReconMR, which will now conduct its US telephone survey work. Gallup has closed its in-house telephone center.

Lyle DurbinGallup was founded in 1935 by George Gallup and is headquartered in Washington DC. The firm focuses on understanding the attitudes and behavior of employees, customers, students and citizens, to advise government and business leaders worldwide.

Austin-based ReconMR was set up some thirteen years ago and initially focused on clients either based in Texas or with a 'significant presence' in the state. It has long since broadened its offer and maintains a strong connection with government, academic and healthcare clients across the USA. The firm boasts 500 on-site US-based CATI stations and 250 US remote interviewers, and has been conducting phone-based surveys in the country on behalf of Gallup for around twelve months. The new multi-year 'preferred partner' arrangement allows the older firm to enhance the efficiency of its phone-based data collection processes while preserving the integrity of its long-term telephone trends through rigorous and continually refined Random-Digit-Dial (RDD) methodologies, to which Recon is committed.

The deal marks the first time Gallup has entrusted an outside source to conduct its monthly Gallup Poll Social Series (GPSS - see below for more info), and Jenny Marlar, Director of Survey Research at Gallup comments: 'This partnership ensures that Gallup can continue collecting the GPSS via telephone, allowing us to consistently and confidently maintain valuable trends, some of which go back nearly a century. We selected ReconMR because of their large-scale telephone data collection capabilities and their demonstrated commitment to maintaining standards of excellence in telephone data collection'.

'After a year of working together, we are thrilled to be named Gallup's preferred partner for phone survey work', says ReconMR CEO Lyle Durbin (pictured). 'Gallup has long been a globally recognized leader in data collection and research, renowned for setting the standard in delivering accurate insights and meaningful analysis. We are deeply committed to supporting Gallup's research that empowers businesses, governments and organizations worldwide to make impactful decisions with confidence. It's an honor to be entrusted with upholding the standards of excellence associated with Gallup and all that they do'.

The Gallup Poll Social Series (GPSS) is a set of public opinion surveys designed to monitor US adults' views on a number of social, economic and political topics: a different topic is featured every month, repeating the same months/topics each year. Core trend questions are included in the same order in every survey. The GPSS was introduced in 2001 and is Gallup's primary method for updating several hundred long-term trend questions, some dating back to the 1930s. It also adds questions for contemporary issues as they emerge.
