The U.S. Census Bureau has released a new tool called CREAT, which uses AI to analyze, categorize and sort the economic research contained in its CES working paper series and allows users to explore the content.
CREAT (the Census Research Exploration and Analysis Tool) makes use of natural language processing and AI to extract and standardize common linkages across papers, and is described as an 'experiment', breaking away from systems where topics are defined by the author. Users can explore links between authors, organizations / datasets and keywords; and can search for text phrases and filter by year.
The tool also identifies common entities mentioned in the text of the research, such as datasets, universities and institutions.
