MR Firms Invited to Take Data Quality Pledge

March 4 2025

International collaborative venture the Global Data Quality initiative (GDQ) is inviting insights and analytics organisations to pledge their commitment 'to uphold the highest standards of data quality in every facet of their work'.

GDQ logoThe GDQ was launched in 2023, is backed by many of the world's biggest research associations, and aims 'to address emerging and ongoing risks associated with poor data quality'. Backers include ESOMAR, the Insights Association, the MRS, the QRCA, SampleCon, The Research Society (Australia), Canada's CRIC, Austria's VMÖ, the Global Research Business Network (GRBN) and AMEC.

The new Data Quality Excellence Pledge aims to establish proof for quality claims through adherence to a shared basic standard. The GDQ says more than 70 organizations have already signed. The detailed framework set forth by the Pledge requires signatories to uphold and document processes for the maintenance of rigorous Data Quality standards, and maintain robust technology and operational procedures; provide transparency regarding sample and methods; protect participants' experience and rights, with adherence to national and international ethical codes and legislation; train and educate staff accordingly; and participate actively in GDQ initiatives, including membership of 'at least one industry association'.

Insights Association CEO Melanie Courtright says the Pledge is 'a powerful statement of commitment from companies worldwide to raise the bar for data quality across the ecosystem'. Debrah Harding, Managing Director of the Market Research Society, states: 'By uniting under this common pledge, we are paving the way for innovation and accountability throughout the industry. This initiative reinforces our commitment to rigorous standards and ethical practices, ensuring that the insights we deliver are as reliable as they are impactful'. Rachel Alltmont, President of SampleCon, comments: 'For the first time, we're seeing competitors put aside differences to collectively combat fraud and establish universal quality standards. This collaborative approach demonstrates our industry's maturity and commitment to self-regulation, proving that together, we can protect data integrity more effectively than any single organization can alone'.
