San Francisco, CA-based mobile app intelligence provider Sensor Tower has acquired London-based gaming intelligence platform Video Game Insights, expanding its coverage into PC and games console data.Sensor Tower was founded in 2013, and provides marketers, app and game developers with mobile, other digital and retail media audience intelligence, including data on usage, engagement and paid acquisition strategies. The firm bought digital ad intelligence provider Pathmatics in 2021 and mobile marketing firm data.ai, formerly known as App Annie a year ago this week.
Research firm Video Game Insights is best known for providing game performance data and user trends from online video game distribution service Steam, but in the last few months has expanded to provide data for Playstation and Xbox.
The Video Game Insights brand will be retained following the buy. Adding its data on PC and Console gaming activity to Sensor Tower's existing mobile gaming solutions means game publishers and developers can now track sales, engagement and advertising for their products and competitors across Apple App Store, Google Play and Steam, to help understand market shifts, benchmark, and drive retention and growth.
'Gaming is a significant part of the digital economy' says Sensor Tower CEO Oliver Yeh (pictured), 'and with this acquisition, Sensor Tower is excited to offer our customers gaming insights across mobile, PC, XBox and Playstation. Video Game Insights has become a trusted name in the industry, providing its customers with reliable estimates on sales, pricing, engagement, and ratings'. Karl Kontus, co-founder and CEO of Video Game Insights, says the sale further his company's goal of 'providing the industry with a comprehensive view of the gaming ecosystem'. He adds: 'The power of our combined datasets provides deeper insights into market trends, competitor strategies, and user preferences, allowing our customers to grow and scale at a faster rate than ever before'.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
